Olam Agri Launches Breastfeeding Support Programme in Cameroon to Mark International Women’s Day
Olam Agri, a leading agribusiness, celebrated International Women’s Day by launching a breastfeeding support programme for its female employees in Cameroon. This initiative is part of the company’s commitment to ensuring that all employees have access to nutrition programmes by 2030.
Led by the company’s women’s alliance group, the programme aims to support working mothers in their maternal journey. All female employees are given a comprehensive breastfeeding kit that includes a breast pump, comfort breast pads, an electric baby milk warmer, and an electric baby bottle steriliser. These accessories are designed to support working mothers in expressing and storing breastmilk for their babies while they are at work.
In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2024, Olam Agri in Cameroon also hosted a Women’s Conference featuring distinguished guest speakers, including Mme. Marguerite Atanga, Managing Director of CCA Bank, and Mme. Gauri Thadaney, MD of RG Hospitality. The conference focused on career and financial empowerment, emphasising savings and investment strategies for the future. Additionally, attendees received training on crafting simple headwraps, caps, and earrings for professional attire. This event not only celebrated the day but also equipped women with practical skills and knowledge for their personal and professional growth.
« Our goal is to foster a supportive, and inclusive workplace where our people can work and thrive. This breastfeeding initiative is part of a broader aim to build a stronger and healthier workforce where our employees have access to nutrition programmes. Through this breastfeeding initiative, we hope to continue empowering working mothers by providing them with the necessary knowledge and tools to succeed both at work and at home, » said Briginette Abega, the Country HR Manager for Olam Agri in Cameroon.
Also commenting on the initiative, Audrey Bomgning, Transit Assistant at Olam Agri in Cameroon, expressed her gratitude: ‘‘I am overjoyed to be the inaugural beneficiary of this remarkable programme. As I embark on maternity leave, I do so with a serene mind, knowing that the provisions I’ve received will significantly support me on my journey into motherhood and will continue to be of benefit upon my return to the office. My heartfelt thanks go out to the management and Olam Agri for launching an initiative that has not only brought joy to the women of Olam Agri but has also personally touched my life in a profound way.’”
